Ever felt really excited watching an R-rated movie with a hot sex scene in it? Well, you’re not alone as quite a number of people actually do—proving that there’s a little voyeuristic tendency in most people.
Furthermore, a visit to the beach, gym or any social gathering reveals the exhibitionist in most people, as you frequently see individuals sport revealing clothing, flexing muscles or just generally showing off some ‘attractive’ parts of their body.
While it’s been quite difficult to determine the number of people that are quite engrossed in watching sex or exposing themselves publicly, a Swedish study has provided detailed information from their investigation into the act.
In the research conducted by the Karolinska Institute, a survey of random Swedish individuals aged 18 to 60 revealed that 31 percent (about seventy -six individuals) reported to have at least on one occasion felt sexually aroused by exposing their genitals to a stranger. It also showed that 4.1 percent of the men surveyed showed exhibitionistic traits than women (2.1 percent).
Also, 7.7 percent (one hundred and ninety-one individuals) reported at least one incident of becoming sexually aroused by spying on others having sex. Again, men were shown to possess more voyeuristic traits than women (11.5 percent vs. 3.9 percent).
However, it is worthy of note that it is completely inappropriate and illegal to record or spy on non-consenting adults secretly—especially when you can easily visit the voyeur house and explore your healthy sexual fantasies with fellow consenting adults, and legally observe other people’s private life 24/7—with cameras that stream live round the clock, unscripted, and uncut.
It doesn’t come as a surprise that men are naturally more voyeuristic than women, as the audience for pornography are clearly voyeuristic. According to porn industry, an estimated 80 percent of pornographic material is viewed by men alone, and the single most accurate predictor of voyeuristic traits was frequent view of porn.
Nonetheless, in comparison to the population, voyeurs and exhibitionist are considered more sexually active. They can be easily aroused, masturbate more frequently and have sex with their partners more often, according to the study.
Additionally, most major metropolitan areas and several rural locales have at least one of either a swing club, sex club or nude beach.
“Where I live, in San Francisco, a major sex club is the Power Exchange, which began as a BDSM club and still maintains a play dungeon in the basement,” said San Francisco based journalist, Michael Castleman M.A. in a report.
“It also has two other floors full of couches, beds, and little rooms and nooks where nookie is encouraged and can be observed.”
“The night I visited the Power Exchange—as part of a “field trip” during a sexology meeting—there were maybe a few couples in various stages of getting it on, being watched by dozens of men, many of whom openly masturbated,” he continued.
With the prevalence of these sex clubs, nude beaches and swing clubs—in addition to the desire to see an R-rated movie like 50 Shades of Grey—it’s safe to safe that voyeurs and exhibitionists are high amongst the populace.
